William Molyneux (1656-1698), Irish philosopher and political writer

Scientist; Trinity College, Dublin; BA 1674; Middle Temple 1675; founder of the Dublin Philosophical Society 1683; FRS 1685; MP (I) 1692-93 and 1695-98; his publications included the Dioptrica Nova 1692 (concerning the refraction of light, a book which won him the friendship of Locke) and The Case of Ireland’s being bound by Acts of Parliament in England 1698.
