1780-1813
George Engleheart's Fee Book (Williamson & Engleheart, George Engleheart, 1902, pp 85-119) lists seven self-portraits between 1780 and 1813, two being painted in 1803 which seems a probable date for the NPG miniature where the sitter is aged about 50.
One of them is recorded as painted for his son George, but later lost; the other, 'Engleheart G (self)', is presumably one of the two self-portraits listed as being in 1903 in the collection of Sir J. Gardner Dillman Engleheart, father of the testator.
1807
Miniature self-portrait in the family collection together with his colour-box, desk and the original copy of the Fee Book.
1814
Later self-portraits are recorded as drawings, though a miniature by J. D. Engleheart was exhibited RA 1814 (377).
Undated
The V&A Museum owns a profile on irregular shaped card together with his paint-box and ivory palettes.
This extended catalogue entry is from the out-of-print National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue: Richard Walker, Regency Portraits, National Portrait Gallery, 1985, and is as published then.
