Three-quarter lenth cloak hanging in pleats from the shoulders with a short stiff cape and flaps over the arm-holes, worn from 1839 to the end of the 19th century. By 1843 it had three capes, a loose collar and loose sleeves. From the 1860s-80s it was an overcoat, sac-like or shaped to the figure: a short paletot was an outdoor jacket and a long paletot a figure-hugging outdoor coat reaching to below the knees with long coat sleeves.
