Popular in the 1830s with walking, promenade and carriage dress, often worn over a white cap. The crown and often the brim were of drawn material. In 1831 the crown was round and placed rather far back and the brim of moderate size, cut square at the corners and projecting forward with an upward tilt. The crown became higher from 1831, and the brim smaller and more circular by 1832.
