Gillray's depictions of George III vary in their treatment of the king. On the one hand, his perceived faults, such as miserliness, could be the object of satire as in Temperance enjoying a frugal meal (D12461); on the other he could be identified positively with Britain or even as John Bull in prints relating to the war with France. Death of the Corsican-fox (D12818) for example shows the king as a huntmaster holding up Napoleon, in the form of a fox, to a pack of hounds with collars identified as victorious British admirals.
