The most fashionable and expensive straw summer hats, made of fine, bleached Tuscan plaited straw, often with broad, soft brims; or the straw itself; or the braided fabric made from it in which each braid was plaited into the next so the fabric appeared continuous. Many imitations were made, such as Dunstable bonnets made of English wheat-straw.
