Based on dresses with overskirts bunched up behind revealing the underskirt, worn from the 1770s-1870s. It was revived as an outdoor garment in 1867, becoming increasingly puffed out behind, and by 1869 had become a bodice and upper-skirt in one, the latter knee-length and looped up behind.
