A set of painted studies for a 'historical picture' (NPG 1208), a group portrait showing naval officers and explorers planning the search for explorer Sir John Franklin, whose expedition had last been seen in Baffin Bay in 1845. Commissioned by John Barrow, Archivist to the Admiralty.
