Drawings of prominent people by William Brockedon, 1823-49
102 Portraits in set
104 drawings of sitters with scientific and geographical interests who were mostly well known by the artist. All of the drawings were realised specifically for two leather-bound volumes, and Brockedon intended these volumes to be a record of his famous contemporaries. Mounted opposite nearly all of the drawings is a letter from the sitter, although in most cases these do not specifically relate to the drawings or their execution.
