Full dress and the grandest attire, this was light and fanciful, usually made of silk or other light fabrics in white or pale colours with a low-cut bodice, full skirt and short or no sleeves, decorated with trimmings of lace, embroidery, flowers or ribbon and elaborately dressed hair. Married women wore light or richer shades of silk. A warm evening cloak or wrap was also worn.
