Charles Boit, Christian Richter and Joseph Goupy were among the many foreign artists flooding into England in the wake of Anthony van Dyck, Peter Lely, Godfrey Kneller and Michael Dahl. NPG 6282 is a rather pedestrian example of Boit's enamel portraiture - a head and shoulders version of his magnificent double portrait (a large enamel) of Queen Anne and Prince George of Denmark of 1706, now in the Royal Collection (Windsor Castle).
