There is a portrait of Claypole with the exact same head but different (non-armour) dress at Chequers Court in Aylesbury, currently listed as "style of van Dyck" (though of course van Dyck never painted Claypole). It seems practically certain that at least the head in both portraits is by or after the same artist, and my top choice would be Robert Walker, who painted Cromwell and many Parliamentarians.
