This is a version of a portrait painted by 1741 by Van Loo, showing Hervey with the purse of lord privy seal, an office he held 1740-42. The original is perhaps the whole length which remains at Ickworth, the family seat. More detailed information on this portrait is available in a National Portrait Gallery collection catalogue, John Kerslake's Early Georgian Portraits (1977, out of print).
