In this portrait by the little-known Levant artist, Lalogero di Bernadis, Webb is shown in a Turkish interior wearing the felt hat and turban of an effendi or man of status. Inscribed in gold to the left of his head is the imperial monogram, or tugra, of Sultan Mahmud II (ruled 1808-39), and on the right in Turkish (or possibly Persian), 'Philip Webb'.
