IAN OLIVER MARTIN

29 January 2018, 20:59

I am a direct male descendant of Sir Henry Marten (Martin) via his son Capt George Giles Martin, the younger brother to teh infamous regicide Col. Henry "Harry" Martin why perished in Chepstow Castle, Monmouthshire, Wales. George Giles Martin left became England removed to Ireland where he became Lord Mayor of Belfast. When Oliver Cromwell insisted that George Martin provide his republican soldiers with quarter an subsistance, George Giles Martin refused. Oliver Crownwell dispossesed G.G. Martin of all his properties in Ireland. Sometime thereafter, G.G. Martin became tobacco plantation owner at Clifton Hall, Saint Johns, Barbados. He died during the plague of 1667? with about 500 people at Fort Willougby (Fort Zeelandia, Paramaibo, Suriname, with son Thomas Martin. My line relocated to Virginia Colony, and became settlers of the new British colonies.

George Giles Martin was ancestor to Sir Thomas Byam Martin:

As for the ancestry of Sir Henry Marten, we descend from one of William the Conquerors' Knights, Sir William Saint Martin of Tours, who was the the Royal House of France (Franks). This "Martin of Tours" acquired several property in his new homeland of England. Combe Martin of Devon, UK still bears his name and shows his French Coat of Arms after 1000 years.

"Martin of Tours" on his own volition conquered a portion of Pembrokeshire Wales, and was buried at Saint Dogmael Abbey:

A last thought. A you may know,it is fast becoming the rage to have one's DNA analysed. On the general test I was informed that I was 71 percent British, 16 percent Welsh, Irish, Scot, 7 % West European -- German, French, Dutch, 2 percent Iberian-Northern Spain and Portuguese, 1% Northwest Russian, and 1% North Italian.

The other DNA test I chose to take was the YDNA Haplogroup identifier. This is the haplogroup genes I inherited directly from Sir Henry Marten and his male paternal line ancestor for thousand of years. The haplogroup is R-M198 otherwise known as R1a1a.

I posted the certificate permantly here, and can be used for any purpose:
