He was the son of Josiah Temple 1804-1876, Keeper of the Guildhall, and Emma Horsnell 1816-1872. He was also younger brother to Emma Cadoux nee Temple 1840-1887 wife to William Henry Cadoux, 1840-1899, Manager for MacAndrews and Forbes Liquorice manufacturers and exporters in Smyrna, now Izmir.
