Born in Sydney Australia; his Aberdonian grandfather went out as a missionary to Samoa, and retired to Australia. The next generation of the family returned to England under sail around 1882. Held incumbencies at Holy Trinity Swansea, St John's Lowestoft, St Luke's Finchley. Appointed Assistant Bishop of Jamaica by his friend the Bishop of London in the hope it would help him get over his depression, which apparent it did. Promoted to full bishop three years later, and Archbishop of the West Indies in 1946. Retired home to England three years later. They'd lived away from England for 22 years and they knew almost no-one. He died two years later.
