Swannell made this portrait of Tony Blair in 2009, two years after the end of Blair's decade-long tenure as British Prime Minister. Swannell was asked to photograph Blair for the front cover of his autobiography A Journey, and this is a previously unreleased pose from this sitting.
In January 2009 Blair was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bush while working as Middle East envoy on behalf of the USA, Russia, the UN and the EU.
