Michael Powell

Sir John Powell (1645-1713) was my 6th great grand uncle on my mother's side. He was a judge in Gloucester and has a memorial monument in Gloucester Cathedral. His father, John Powell, died in 1666. His brother, of whom I have no record, was my 6th great grandfather. His daughter, Elizabeth Powell, married Joseph Aldridge and their great great grand daughter, Sarah Matilda Aldridge, was my mother's grandmother. One of her uncles was Rear Admiral John Williams Aldridge whose portrait and naval ceremonial sword I have. He died in 1875 in Axminster, Devon, aged 80. If you have an image of Sir John Powell's portrait, I would be very interested in obtaining a copy, together with any other information you have about him. He does have an entry in the Dictionary of National Biography and is not to be confused with another Sir John Powell who was a judge in Wales, and of whom you also have a portrait and a digital image
