This press photograph is captioned on the reverse: 'Mr Augustus John wishing good luck to new nun, Miss Iris Tree on the boat train at Waterloo Station this morning.' The poet and actress Iris Tree was a model and muse to a number of artists. She was one of the many female visitors that Dorelia tolerated at Aldernay Manor in Dorset, John's country home from 1911 to 1927. In 1925 she took the roll of the Nun opposite Lady Diana Cooper as the Madonna in the spectacularly successful mime play The Miracle. This photograph was taken as the cast departed for a tour of America.
