This portrait was taken for Lousada's Queen magazine commission 'Love me, Love me as a dog'. Lady Epstein is shown with her Shetland Collie Frisky, and the article noted: 'Oddly enough, it is hard to think of a breed which would be more appropriate to fill the role of being the Epstein dog. The Collie is a work of art in himself.'

International

Harold Macmillan delivers his 'wind of change' speech to the South African Parliament in Cape Town, announcing Britain's decision to grant independence to many of her colonies. The speech recognised the emergence of African nationalism, and criticised the policy of Apartheid in South Africa.
