Amy Johnson is the first woman to fly solo to Australia. She flew the 11,000 miles from Croydon to Darwin in a De Havilland Gipsy Moth named Jason and won the Harmon Trophy as well as a CBE for her achievement. She went on to break a number of other flying records, and died while serving in the Air Transport Auxiliary in 1941.Art and science

Hobson served as the chair of the Fight for Freedom Committee, an interventionist group in the US, that called for immediate and armed military intervention against Hitler and his allies. That position was very controversial in the months leading up to America's entry into the war as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor.While the US was still officially neutral, the fiery archbishop regularly used his pulpit to rail against Hitler. Many parishioners complained and/or left. As the war neared a successful conclusion, the unwavering archbishop finally felt vindicated for his firm stand against militarism.
