Painter Saied Dai made studies of his sitter at Royal Opera House while she prepared for her retirement. Mason is presented with a dancer's poise and a director's authority, whilst the curtain and mask evoke a sense of theatre.

My name is Kate Shields, and I work at Dance Professionals Fund.
Dame Monica Mason is the Chairman of our charity. We are the leading UK charity offering financial assistance for individuals during their dance careers and into retirement, and I was wondering if you would perhaps like to add this to the information you have about this wonderful painting?
Thanks in advance,
Kate Shields
