Although the landscape photographs of Ansel Adams have become symbols of wild America, he worked commercially throughout his career for Life and Fortune magazines, which he explained as ‘necessary for practical reasons, but very restraining to my creative work’. A variant of this print was published in Life magazine, 14 March 1955.
