For a clear indication of who the sitters are, photographs of the Oxford and Cambridge rowing teams and their names appeared in the Illustrated London News - Saturday 31 March 1928, page 9 as well as the Dundee Evening Telegraph - Friday 30 March 1928 page 7 (both can be viewed on the British Newspaper Archive online).
