BBC Radio 4’s daily current-affairs programme, Today, is one of the most popular radio shows in the country with over 7 million listeners a week. Launched on the BBC Home Service on 28 October 1957, it celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2017. Artist Nigel Shafran’s Today Everyday features the five presenters of the programme; John Humphrys (b.1943), Sarah Montague, Lady Brooke (b.1966), Mishal Husain (b.1973), Justin Webb (b.1961) and Nick Robinson (b.1963). Shafran (b.1964) filmed in and around the Today studio
over three days in July 2017, asking each presenter questions about their daily lives, interspersing these recollections with scenes of empty studios and workspaces. The audio element provides a paradoxical connection to the presenters’ voices, which are normally associated with world affairs. Sometimes humorous and often tender, Shafran’s work is celebrated for revealing poignant situations that at first appear incidental.
