Described in the magazine:
Demi Toilet. Blue berège robe, the corsage high at the back, and crossing on the bosom, is ornamented with a lappel bordered with fancy silk trimming. Short tight sleeves decorated en suite. A profusion of tucks, rising very high, adorn the skirt; they are edged with fancy silk trimming. Ceinture of blue quadrilled ribbon, disposed in a rosette at the back, and with long floating ends. Head dress of hair.
Public Promenade Dress. India muslin pelisse robe; a high corsage pointed at the bottom; it is embroidered in feather-stitch, and the centre marked by white buttons, which also extend down the skirt; the latter is trimmed with two richly embroidered flounces; short sleeves trimmed with embroidered ruffles. Rice-straw chapeau - a round open shape; the interior is decorated with coques and brides of pink ribbon; the exterior is profusely adorned with ribbon and a pink ostrich feather. Black lace mantelet.

Britain experiences a railway boom. Peel's government passes a series of Acts creating provision of cheap, regular rail services. George Hudson, the first great railway entrepreneur, who controlled over 1,000 miles of railway track and whose enterprises made York a major commercial and transport hub, becomes known as 'the Railway King'.
