Described in the magazine:
Demi-Toilet. Light green berège robe, the corsage half high and deeply pointed at the bottom, descends in a short lappel of a novel form in the centre of the bosom; it is edged with passementerie lyrinthe. The sleeve, a three-quarter length and tight to the arm, is trimmed with three rows of the same. The skirt open before, and turning back in robings at the sides, is bordered en suite. India muslin under-dress, the high corsage ornamented with entre deux of Valenciennes lace, and the skirt trimmed with a single deep flounce richly embroidered. Head-dress of hair.
Walking Dress. Light fawn-coloured gros de Naples robe, corsage à la Dubarry, for which we refer to our plate. Sleeve a three-quarter length with a turned-up cuff, à la chevalière. Under-sleeve of muslin bouillonné; the front of the skirt is trimmed en tablier with a double robing; the centre, and also that of the corsage, is ornamented with brandebourgs. Green satin capote, a close shape and short round brim; the trimming is composed of ribbon to correspond, and a guirlande of autumnal flowers. Cashmere scarf à bandes bayadere.

Britain experiences a railway boom. Peel's government passes a series of Acts creating provision of cheap, regular rail services. George Hudson, the first great railway entrepreneur, who controlled over 1,000 miles of railway track and whose enterprises made York a major commercial and transport hub, becomes known as 'the Railway King'.

Disraeli's Coningsby is published. The first of his 1840s 'Young England' trilogy, it was the cultural manifesto of Disraeli's vision for a new Conservativism.
