Diarist, John Evelyn, publishes the pro-royalist tracts, A Character of England and An Apology for the Royal Party, two of his earliest works.
InternationalThe position of Henry Cromwell, younger son of Oliver Cromwell, as chief administrator of Ireland collapses soon after the fall of his brother, Richard Cromwell and the Protectorate. He returns to England in June, never to return to Ireland.
