Writer and philanthropist Drue Heinz has known David Hockney since the 1960s, when she and her husband Jack Heinz spent every summer in London. She plays host and sitter to Hockney at her home on Lake Como in Italy, which she has transformed into a literary and artistic retreat. Her philanthropic work centres on the Drue Heinz Trust, which initiates and supports numerous art projects, including the prestigious Drue Heinz Literature Prize, the Heinz Archive and Library at the National Portrait Gallery, London and the Heinz Architectural Centre at the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh.

InternationalTerrorist bombing attacks on the Island of Bali in Indonesia leave 202 people dead, including 25 Britons. The three attacks took place in a bar, outside a nightclub and outside the United States consulate, and were aimed at foreign tourists, although many locals were also killed or injured. The Islamist group Jemaah Islamiyah were found guilty of perpetrating the attacks.
