Do you know where donor Raphael purchased the work from? I have found a reference to its sale on 30 January 1883 in a Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge sale of the J Barnard Library Collection. British Library accession no: OCLC: 171646452; p51. I am doing my PhD on Davis and I wonder if it is the same work. The purchaser is listed as Fawcett (?). Hope this is useful.
