Seymour Powell was formed in 1984. The company has a prominent position on the international stage, and Richard Seymour (left) and Dick Powell (right) have appeared in numerous TV and radio programmes on the subject of design. Clients of the product design consultancy have included Ford, Nokia, Renault, Yamaha, Casio and BMW. Both Seymour and Powell are widely sought after as speakers, and their studio has won many awards. Products include a children's holographic book and a televised project for Channel 4 charting the development of the Bioform bra, a toilet and an electric car. Photographed in their Hammersmith studio in May 2004.

Armed robbers raid the Northern Bank in Belfast, stealing £26.5 million. Gunmen entered the homes of two bank officials, kidnapping their families and forcing them to let them into the bank, before loading cash into vans and driving away. An earthquake in the Indian Ocean on Boxing Day causes a tsunami that kills nearly 230,000 people when it hit the coasts of Southeast Asia.
