This cast is closely related to the marble bust of Albert by Francis, now in the Guildhall Art Gallery, which was exhibited RA, 1844 (1265). Cowland also owned a plaster bust of Queen Victoria, related to the marble bust by Chantrey in the Royal Collection. Cowland thought that the bust of Albert was also by Chantrey, and wrote on 16 June 1914 (NPG archives):

'I understand that my father had them from a Dr Seymour or his widow – that Dr Seymour was a well-known physician in the West End and that Sir Francis Chantrey was a friend or patient of his & gave the busts to him. Sir Francis died in Nov. 1842 [sic] ... An old friend staying with us says he remembers the busts in my father's possession in 1855.'
