Versions exhibited Third Exhibition of National Portraits, South Kensington, 1866 (1008), [1] belonging to the Congregation of Independents, Kidderminster; with the Standerwick family in 1905, [2] and see also NPG 875.
These portraits derive from engravings by Robert White (R: White delin: et sculp:) showing a half-length figure holding a book at his breast with a drape and church window behind him, first published in 1670 (for Baxter’s Life of Faith) and re-issued as a larger plate in 1671, 1673 and 1685; a reversed but similar half-length oval figure by White, without the hand and background detail, was published in 1681 (Richardi Baxteri Ministri Jesu Christi) and White’s pupil, Arthur Soly, engraved a small oval version in 1683.
