Provenanceback to top

Family possession descending to Miss Alice Blandford (Anna Beddoes's great-granddaughter), her niece Miss Beddoes, her granddaughter Mrs Tana Fletcher, Christie's 10 February 1976 (39) among a group of six Edgeworth family miniatures; bought Leggatt for the NPG 1976.
The provenance shows a continuous family ownership since the miniature was painted in 1794, the year after Beddoes had established the Pneumatic Institute at Clifton. He married on 17 April 1794 at Edgeworthstown, Ireland, and the miniature could have been a wedding present for Anna Edgeworth (Memoirs of R. L. Edgeworth, 1821, II, p 133). Roche had a flourishing practice in Bath from 1792 onwards.
