The name of the artist and the date were contained in the will of Christopher Bradshaw (relevant extract in letter from his executors of 26 June 1928, NPG archives). On the wall behind the sitter is one of his maps of the railways. This is the only recorded portrait of him.

Fair complexion, grey eyes, brown hair with grey streaks. Dressed in a white stock, white shirt, and very dark grey suit. Seated in an armchair with deep red covering. Map on wall light grey colour. Rest of background dark brown.
