Incised on the truncation: P. ROUW/SCULPR LONDON 1803; the original backing paper inscribed in ink, probably by the artist: A Portrait of the/late Duke of Bridgewater//Peter Rouw/Sculptor/Portland Road/London/1803//Published as the Act Directs.1

1 The writing agrees with that on the vestigial backing of Rouw’s wax of Hastings of 1806, see NPG 5065.

The profile relates closely to the drawing by Craig of 1788 but exhibits finer detail. [1] Another wax medallion is at Tatton Park.
