Inscribed in ink along the bottom edge under the present mount: Lord Brougham/from life by J. Lonsdale.

This portraitback to top

The drawing was made from life and is probably the original sketch for Lonsdale's oil, NPG 361. Charles Turner's drawing for the mezzotint is more precise and meticulous and bears little resemblance to the nervous flowing lines of Lonsdale's sketch.

Bought in 1975 from Peter Rowlands who bought it at a sale in Buckingham in January 1975.
