Collinson is wearing the full-dress uniform (1846 pattern), either of a naval captain with over three years service, or of a commodore (1st or 2nd class), with (from left to right) the Arctic Medal (1818-55), the Bath (CB), and the China Medal (1842).

Healthy complexion, brown eyes, brown hair and whiskers. Dressed in a dark stock, white shirt, and dark blue uniform, with a silver belt, gold-braided collar and epaulettes, gilt buttons, white enamel star, and silver medals with multi-coloured ribbons. Background colour dark brown.

Commissioned or purchased by Colonel John Barrow, and bequeathed by him, 1899.
