Mrs Foskett has suggested this may be a copy by William Essex or Henry Bone. Another possibility is Richard Collins who followed Cumberland as a student at the Royal Academy Schools and later became a pupil and friend (Whitley, Artists and their Friends, 1928, II, p 357).

Head and shoulders to left aged about 30, in black coat, white collar; fair hair, blue eyes, rubicund complexion, smiling expression; classical statue and ruins against dark blue sky.
