Apparently commissioned by Peel for his 'Statesmen's Gallery', which contained several other portraits by Say, including one of the Earl of Ellenborough (NPG 1805).

Blue eyes, brown hair. Dressed in a white shirt, white stock, black suit and waistcoat, with a gold monocle. Brownish red table-cloth, with a blue dispatch box on it (brass handle, with the Queen's arms stamped on it). Behind at right a red curtain. Rest of background light brown.
