The early history of this picture is unknown. The date is based on costume and the apparent age of the sitter. There seems no reason to doubt that the portrait does represent Follett.

Dark grey eyes, brown hair. Dressed in a white shirt, white stock and brown coat. Glimpse of green landscape bottom right. Lower portion of sky yellow, upper portion dark blue.
