Directly related to the (reversed) half-length engraving by J. Simon (J. Chaloner Smith, British Mezzotinto Portraits, 69) published after 1702. The original is probably that at Frederiksborg (2604); a studio version was sold Sotheby’s, 24 November 2005, lot 32, and a slightly reduced version is at Temple Newsam (PA.1948.0022. 0008). [1] A derivative miniature by C. Richter was with E. M. Hodgkins in 1910. [2]
Dahl appears to have been particularly favoured by the Prince. [3]
