The early history of this picture is unknown, but it certainly represents Graham. The name of the artist was supplied by the donor. A reproduction was published by the Berlin Photographische Gesellschaft (example in NPG). Trautschold, who was born and trained in Germany, spent some years in Liverpool, and later in London. He painted a number of English sitters (see for instance his portrait of J. S. Knowles, NPG 2003).

Healthy complexion, brown eyes, brown hair and whiskers. Dressed in a dark stock and neck-tie, white shirt, bluish-white waistcoat, dark brown coat, fawn trousers. Seated in a chair covered with red material. Curtain at right red and orange, rest of background brown.
