The miniature is a free copy from the head of Shee's full-sized whole-length at Sandhurst; this was exhibited RA 1804 and many engravings were made of it, for instance Scriven's stipple for The Military Chronicle, April 1811, a very probable source for Mitchell's copy.

Oval miniature on ivory stuck to card, in an 18th century frame with a small hair locket in centre of the back. He wears uniform of 27th Foot Regiment (Inniskilling) of which he was Colonel 1804-26.
