Inscriptionback to top

Incised on the truncation: Pr Rouw/Sculpr London 1806.
Inscribed in ink on the backing paper: Portrait of the/Right Honble Warren Hastings/Peter Rouw/Sculptor-Modeller of Gems/& Cameos, to his R. H: The/Prince Regent/22 Carmarthen Street/Fitzroy Square.1

1 Copied (in the early 19th century?) from the original backing of which only a torn fragment remains, but sufficient to show it was in the same hand as the inscription on the backing of Rouw’s Duke of Bridgewater, NPG 4276 - presumably the hand of Rouw (who officially received his Royal appointment in 1807).
