Probably the drawing is the preliminary study for the portraits listed in Richmond's Account Book (photostat of original in NPG) under 3 November and a duplicate in May 1835 for 7 guineas each. One of these was in the Hill family collection in 1973 (NPG archive). Finden's engraving of 1845 was probably made from the duplicate.

Half-length in blue coat, black velvet collar, white shirt and waistcoat, Ribbon of the Bath; scanty grey hair, vivid blue eyes, bright rosy cheeks, smiling expression.
