Label removed from back of frame now in registered packet 2677 in NPG archive: Portrait of Francis Horner Esq. MP. b 12 August 1778 d 8 February 1817. This likeness was used by Sir Francis Chantrey when making the statue in Westminster Abbey//This portrait of Francis Horner by Henning in chalk drawing is in my opinion the best existing likeness. It recalls him more strongly than any other. My dear Mother used to call it "Martin Luther"//Extract from letter of Leonard Horner (my grandfather) to his sister Mrs Power 20 June 1849//Francis H.
