Sir Francis Chantrey’s Ledgers of Accounts, p 125 records: '1820 Recd an order from Lord Viscount Castlereagh to make his Bust price 150 guineas/1822 to executing ditto £157.10.0’. The plaster model is in the Ashmolean Museum (536/24), probably that exhibited RA 1821 (1132). A marble bust dated 1821 was at Sotheby's 16 November 1962 (30), now Yale Centre for British Art, New Haven; marbles dated 1822 are at Windsor, 1827 at Haddo House (Major David Gordon) and undated copies at Wynyard Park, Stratfieldsaye, Travellers' Club and NPG. The type was engraved by Thomson for The Lady's Magazine, 1 October 1822. A plaster variant (identity doubtful) is at Cirencester Park.
