Half-length in black uniform top-coat with fur collar, red and gold belt, cutlass tucked under left arm, white waistcoat, black cravat; grey hair, dark blue eyes, ruddy complexion; plain brown background with stormy sky lower right.

Painted for the 1st Earl of Bradford and given by his grandson, the 3rd Earl, in 1896 (Weston Catalogue, 1888, p 201 and letters in NPG archive).
